Strike defense
The share of an opponent's significant strike attempts that did not land, across a fighter's career.
Formula
defense = 1 - opponent landed / opponent attemptedDefense is the mirror image of the opponent's accuracy, added up over every fight. It rewards head movement, footwork and distance management, and it is one of the steadier numbers a fighter carries from fight to fight.
It pairs with strikes absorbed per 15 minutes: a fighter can defend a high share of strikes and still absorb many if opponents throw a lot at them.
The common mistake
Defense depends on who you fought. A fighter matched with volume strikers will look worse than one matched with counter-punchers.
