Knockdown

A strike that drops an opponent, a hand or knee touching the canvas, or leaves them visibly out on their feet.

Knockdowns are counted per round. They are rare, which is what makes them telling: a fighter who scores them regularly carries real power.

They also move rounds. A knockdown is one of the clearest signals of damage a judge sees, and it often decides a close round on its own.

The common mistake

Counts are small, so career knockdown totals say more about how many fights someone had than about power. Read them alongside the finish rate.
